OK, so I like sports

I like sports. I like to watch them and participate in them. I like baseball, football, hockey, basketball and golf, in particular. I grew up playing baseball, football, basketball and golf. I played street hockey, not ice hockey for the most obvious of all reasons — I couldn't skate. I just couldn't learn how to balance my self on them, let alone stop on them. I needed the boards so I could glide into them. And I fell plenty of times. Maybe that's why my left knee hurts a little when it gets cold outside.

I'll be upfront about my favorite teams. Baseball: Detroit Tigers and the Chicago Cubs. Yup, one winner (a lot of the time) and one loser (almost all of the time). You can figure that out, I hope. And I like the Toledo Mud Hens, my hometown baseball team.

Football is divided into college and pro. I like the college game better. To me, there's more excitement and variety in it. And more offense. My favorite college team is my alma mater, the University of Toledo. The Rockets are famous for their rocket-like offense, scoring 60 and 66 points in two games in the past season. It's too bad the UT defense was so porous, giving up 63 points and lost to eventual Mid-American Conference champ Northern Illinois. That loss cost them the MAC West title. Go Rockets in the Military Bowl on December 28 against the Air Force Academy!

Number two favorite college football team is Ohio State. I guess I should call OSU TOSU for The Ohio State University Buckeyes, since my daughter is a graduate of OSU and my wife and I learned while we enrolled her there that OSU is The Ohio State University. Anyway, I'm a big Buckeye fan and have been one for a long time. Sure 2011 was a tough year with suspensions, Coach Tressel having to retire (we may never know all the goings on with him having to step down), suspensions, etc. It was a trying year for Luke Fickell, but he will do better under new head coach Urban Meyer. I think all of them will do better in 2012.

More to come on my other favorite sports.
